Commissioner Gibson Holds a Dedication Event for New Public Art in Paradise Recreation Center
Commissioner Jim Gibson and Clark County Parks & Recreation’s Public Arts Office invite you to the unveiling of a new public art installation on the bathroom stalls of the Paradise Recreation Center, 4775 McLeod. The event will occur on Thursday, November 14, at 10 a.m.
The 4th edition of Empowerment Art, by artist Karen Casteneda, is now on display at the Paradise Recreation Center. Inspired by her summer workshops with the center's young participants, this vibrant digital design brings a burst of color and positivity to the facility.
Castaneda’s artwork, printed on vinyl and adorning the bathroom stall doors, is a testament to the power of creativity and self-expression. Each stall door features a unique design, celebrating the individuality and potential of every visitor.
“The Empowerment Art project creates a sense of community by showcasing artwork in collaboration with the children of Paradise Recreation Center,” says Commissioner Jim Gibson. “By igniting their passion for art, we're fostering a generation of creative problem-solvers and self-assured individuals who will help shape the future of our community.”
Karen Castaneda is a Las Vegas resident who was born and raised in New York City. She is a freelance visual artist who engages with the community. Her mission is to engage and unify communities through the healing power of artmaking. Karen intends to use her leadership and artwork as an invitation for connection—the connection between persons and between oneself and our own human experience.
