Individuals interested in becoming a Firefighter are encouraged to submit a Job Interest Card.  All interest card submissions are received by the Clark County Human Resources ( CCHR) office. Hiring Process

Once your application has been reviewed, Human Resources will provide notification by letter or email that you have been invited to participate in the written test. Applicants with the highest test scores are then invited to continue with the hiring process. Competition for firefighter openings is extremely competitive so preparation is crucial!
 
Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid "Class C" Nevada driver’s license at time of appointment, including the first day of rookie school.
  • Vision must be correctable and within the guidelines specified in order to hold a current Nevada Driver's License.
  • Height in proportion to weight.
  • Physically and mentally fit to perform vigorous basic skill requirements.
  • Applicants are not eligible to apply if they have been convicted of a felony.

Testing

  • Medical Exam
  • Background check
  • Suitability Exam
  • Zero Day - CCFD will conduct a Candidate Ability Test (CAT) representing the minimum physical requirement to qualify for the academy. The CAT will take place three weeks prior to the start of an academy and will consist of a 1.5 mile run in under 15 minutes and job-related exercises. Failure to pass Zero Day testing will disqualify any prospective candidate. See a list of recommended training exercises to help you prepare for Zero Day.
Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Candidates must be in excellent physical condition.
  • Employment is contingent upon the results of a background investigation.
  • Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination, to include a pulmonary test, and a psychological evaluation performed by our examining physician.
  • Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug test.
  • It is a condition of employment that any fire service employee hired into the Fire Department after January 1, 1993, not use tobacco in any form.
  • Candidates must comply with the CCFD Dress Code Grooming Standards. CCFD Dress Code.

Salary and Benefits
All Firefighters are hired at the entry level of Firefighter I, with an annual salary of $59,754.24 while in rookie school. The salary range for firefighter is $59,754.24 - $88,757.76. The Clark County Fire Department offers a comprehensive benefit package that includes:

Fire Explorers Program
The purpose of the Fire Explorer Program is to expose young men and women to the fire service. The program is open to individuals between the ages of 16 and 21 and provides a great opportunity to prepare for the career of firefighter.
